Tips to Keep Your Computer Secure From Viruses and Spywares

Virus or spyware attack can happen mainly if you are a frequent user of internet. Even it can happen while your children are playing games in the gaming console. Without your knowledge these malicious programs will slowly enter your computer. However, there are steps which you can take to overcome extreme damages in your computer are:

1. Safe mode networking: If you start windows in Safe Mode then you will be able to do virus removal almost in permanent basis from your computer completely. This mode only has the necessary programs of the computer. Hence there is less chance of any trouble. This Mode starts in different operating systems of Microsoft in little different way.

a) In Windows XP restart the computer. While the computer restarts keep on tapping the F8 button on the key board; until a list of names appear in a black screen.

As the mouse pointer will not work in this screen, you need to navigate by using the up-down arrow keys of the keyboard and select ?'Safe Mode Networking''.
b) In some other computers with other operating system you might have to press the Esc or delete key rather than the F8 key on the keyboard. However, for earlier version of the Windows Operating System you have to wait for the first beep; while the system restarts. Then tap the Ctrl key until you get the black list of names of the different modes. After you select the name of the required mode press the Enter key.

c) After your computer starts up in Safe Mode, you should immediately run a scan.

As this is a more restricted mode of your computer; the viruses or spywares will be fast deleted.

d) Often spywares appear or return back because they hide themselves in Windows Registry. This Registry is actually a large database which lists all details of your computer. You can prevent the entry of malicious applications from entering the registry by getting a custom HOSTS file. This will help you to block any unwanted intrusion's to be downloaded in your computer. It also prevents your computer from spyware intrusion.

e) A registry back up is also necessary; just in case the malware enters in your computer. Then virus or spyware removal may be impossible. In windows XP you need to click on Start and then click on Run. Now in the Run box type ?'regedit'' and click on Ok. Then highlight My Computer if that is not already highlighted.

To restore the registry using the backup copy, you need to click it in order to open it. Then click on Yes and then Ok.

2. For a serious virus intrusion: If your computer is badly affected by virus intrusion then you need to delete the Restore Point. However, this method is a little intricate. You may take assistance of online technical support company and confidently repair your computer.

There are several snapshots of your system which was restored periodically by Windows. In case you face any issue, you can go back to this part of the computer and select a Point when your computer worked fine. Selecting that snapshot will take your computer back to that date. And your computer will be virus free.

Is Divorce Immature and Selfish? | Psychology Today

Last week, the best-selling author and popular blogger?Penelope Trunk?declared divorce "immature and selfish." She claimed divorce is "nearly always terrible for kids" (and "your case is not the exception"); that it is a sign of mental illness (specifically, of Borderline Personality Disorder); and that it is something that "dumb people" do at higher rates than well-educated ones.

Trunk tends to base most of her writing, for her blog and for national media outlets like CNN, on pretty solid scientific research, so I was surprised by this post. That said, she's most famous for blogging about highly personal and controversial topics, and so this might be, in part, a publicity stunt.

Unfortunately, her post is freaking out thousands of people who are doing their best to raise happy and well-adjusted children. My former husband even asked me, in a panicky whisper outside of our teacher conference, if our own much-deliberated and highly-agonized-over divorce could have damaged our kids in ways we were not yet seeing several years out.

Is Trunk correct? Is it usually better for kids to have unhappily married parents who stay together? Or, are there some cases where divorce is actually?better?for kids than remaining married?

There is no denying that divorce is pretty tough on everyone involved. When you look at the general population, about 10 percent of kids have behavioral or school-related problems, but about 20 percent of kids whose parents divorce have these problems.# While it's true that 80 percent of kids with divorced parents are doing fine, divorce seems to double the risk that kids will have problems. Does this mean that unhappily married folks actually?should?stay together for the kids?

Not necessarily.?This is because some of the risk factors that divorce can create for kids actually exist?before?an unhappily married couple divorces. As I've?written before, conflict in a relationship is the real doozy for everyone involved. While it's true that kids being raised by "harmoniously married" parents do better than others, both sociologists and psychologists consistently find that kids who are raised by unhappily married parents do?worse?than kids whose unhappily married parents get divorced. Let me state that again:?The worst situation for kids is when unhappily married parents, particularly those in high-conflict marriages, stay together.

Are you wondering if you are in a high-conflict or distressed marriage?? Violence and abuse make a relationship high-conflict, of course; researchers also tend to classify relationships characterized by contempt, stonewalling (when one person ignores another's attempts to engage), criticism, or defensiveness as distressed.

(The Wallerstein book that Trunk cites as evidence that "divorce is nearly always terrible for kids," was, by the way, debunked ages ago. Wallerstein's research looks only at children whose parents were being treated for mental illness, and so the results aren't generalizable to all families. That study got so much press, however, that it inspired a plethora of high-quality research that is actually quite useful for helping us understand how or why divorce might hurt kids.)

"Does divorce harm kids?" is not actually the right question, although we ask it all the time. A better question is this: "What circumstances make divorce harmful or?beneficial?to kids?" And the answer is that, on average, divorce actually?helps?kids when it ends an unhappy, high-conflict marriage.

There's another important factor: The quality of the divorce itself. The difference between a "bad" and?"good" divorce?can be critical for kids. Researchers refer to divorce-related problems as "post-disruption effects," and studies of them are numerous and complicated. Post-divorce problems-such as losing contact with a parent, or financial hardship, or having parents who continue to fight bitterly-tend to accumulate. When they do, children benefit substantially from therapy and other forms of support.

So it isn't that divorce never causes problems for kids. Children whose parents divorce?actuallydo tend to have more problems than children whose parents stay together-but divorce may often be a symptom of a bigger problem rather than the cause of it. And the negative effects of divorce, on average, are surprisingly small, especially compared to some of the other things that can go wrong in childhood.

I would never call a process as difficult and painful as divorce "immature," as Penelope Trunk did. I think divorcing well-in a way that?won't?scar the children deeply and permanently-takes great maturity and courage-which, of course, not everyone has.

But is divorce selfish? Not if you are in a distressed or high-conflict marriage. If you are, but you are staying because you think it would be selfish to leave, don't leave for yourself. Do it for your kids.

Execs at bankrupt MF Global may get bonuses

Executives at MF Global wouldn't appear to be model candidates for bonuses. But if the former FBI official acting as the firm's bankruptcy trustee has his way, nearly two dozen high-ranking executives at the disgraced brokerage could rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars ? each ? as the government tries to sort through the company's chaotic, free-spending final days. ?

Regulators have been trying to figure out what happened to as much as $1.6 million in customer funds since the company's implosion in October following a string of bad bets on European debts. The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, said trustee Louis Freeh plans to ask the judge overseeing the liquidation to approve bonuses for MF Global top brass including its COO, CFO?and general counsel. Former Goldman Sachs chief and New Jersey governor Jon Corzine resigned as CEO in November without taking a severance package.

These executives would earn bonuses for hitting certain benchmarks in terms of squeezing additional value out of the collapsed company's assets. An advisor to Freeh told the Journal it would be cheaper to keep these workers on board than to hire outside consultants and accountants to sift through reams of sloppy or incomplete paperwork to track down missing funds.

Lawyers and consultants representing the interests of clients ? some of who have received less than three-quarters of their invested funds back, according to the Journal ? blasted the proposal, calling it a conflict of interest. They argued that customers, whose funds were supposed to be wholly separate from the troubled company's other assets, should be made whole before the other creditors ? the ones who would benefit if the bonus benchmarks are met ? get their slice of the pie.?

This practice of executives at bankrupt companies receiving huge payouts when stockholders, retirees and even current employees lose out is controversial; some experts say performance targets are set so low as to be meaningless and others say the bonuses incentivize executives to put the interests of increasingly activist creditors ahead of equity stakeholders.?

Shale boom turns North Dakota into No. 3 oil producer

NEW YORK (Reuters) - North Dakota has overtaken California as the third-largest U.S. oil-producing state, as the controversial fracking technology boosted shale oil output and cut the Midwestern state's unemployment rate to the lowest in the country.

The shale oil boom could be a recurring theme during the U.S. presidential campaign this year with both parties debating how to create and sustain energy-related jobs and reduce the top oil consumer's dependence on imports.

Republican nominee Mitt Romney has appointed the chief executive of a major producer in the Bakken shale rock formation -- Continental Resources' Harold Hamm-- as his energy advisor.

The state's January oil output rose to 546,050 barrels per day (bpd), up 59.2 percent from a year earlier, after output in the Midwest state's Bakken and Three Forks shale prospects rose some 11,000 bpd to a record 480,700 bpd, data from the North Dakota Industrial Commission showed on Thursday.

Mild winter weather and a ramp up in well completion work, including the controversial process of hydraulic fracturing, used to extract the oil from shale rock, led to the rise in output.

This compares with California's average crude oil production of 537,500 bpd throughout 2011, the last period for which data is available.

North Dakota, located along the Canadian border, has upended the U.S. oil market since 2007 and its output has eclipsed that of OPEC member Ecuador thanks to advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. Production has doubled in the three years since 2009.

Meanwhile, California's oil production has declined over the past few years and was an average 14,000 bpd lower in 2011 compared with the previous year.

Texas is the largest producer of oil in the United States, followed by Alaska.

OIL RUSH BLUES

The oil boom has arrived with its perks and troubles. North Dakota's unemployment rate in December was the lowest in the nation at 3.3 percent. Oil companies say there are more jobs than people in North Dakota.

As it is, the state is teeming with field hands who followed drilling rigs into the once-agrarian state. They crowd camps or sleep in their cars while the housing stock struggles to catch up with their influx.

The oil boom has also led to a surge in construction projects across the state.

Residents complain the crime rate has gone up, a fact law enforcement officials say is driven by the increasing population.

"More people means more crime. It's definitely gotten busier around here," said Cory Collings, head investigator with the Williston Police Department.

"I see license plates from all 50 states in the United States. We got people here from Alaska, and they have oil there," he added.

Another problem that accompanied the surge is traffic volume on the streets. Collings said it took him eight minutes to get to work a year ago. Now, he has to drive 30 minutes before he gets to fight crime in the boom town.
