On Monday's?"Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars,"?Bristol Palin?burst into tears and stormed out on her partner?Mark Ballas during a rehearsal session -- but Anderson Cooper calls the single mom's moment of weakness brilliant TV.?

"Anyone who is on a reality show knows that to get attention, you have to have a have a wardrobe malfunction, throw up, have a breakdown -- have a storyline. Bristol Palin is a genius because last night she developed a storyline that made her very sympathetic," Cooper said on Tuesday's "Anderson Live" of the 21-year-old, who tearfully argued that Ballas did not support her as much as he did previous partners Shawn Johnson and Sabrina Bryan. ("You are not even there," Palin complained, before storming out of the rehearsal space. "You didn't turn up to rehearsal! I feel like you want to go home.")

Following her televised meltdown, Palin danced the paso doble with Ballas and earned 22.5/30 points -- their highest score yet.

As Palin celebrates her Monday night accomplishment on the dance floor, Cooper suggests that the Alaska-bred mother to Tripp, 3, reconsider documenting her life for reality TV cameras.?

"I am thinking of starting a job fair for people . . . who just need to get jobs, [like] Lindsay Lohan, Bristol Palin. I think they just need to get jobs, stop being on TV!" mused the talk show host of Palin and troubled actress Lohan, 26.

Bristol's mother, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, supported her oldest daughter at Monday's taping just hours after a suspicious package addressed to Bristol arrived at the?"DWTS" set and prompted a police investigation. Later, Sarah took to her Facebook page to applaud Bristol's grace under added pressure.

"Do the haters really think this will stop Bristol and Mark and the show's producers from keepin' on keepin' on? Silly critics -- after all these years of goofy antics like this we find these efforts are actually quite motivating!" Sarah ?Palin wrote. "Bristol's not letting this get her down."

Health News - New point of focus found for the treatment of ...

Scientists affiliated with VIB and UGent have discovered a mechanism used by the protein A20 to combat inflammation.

This could be a very important point of focus in the search for a treatment for autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, in which the patient suffers from chronic, uncontrolled inflammation.

Rudi Beyaert: "We hope that our research can eventually contribute to the development of new therapies against Rheumatoid Arthritis and other auto-immune conditions.?

??

A20, a protein involved in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and other autoimmune conditions

RA is a chronic progressive joint condition that starts with an inflammation of the joint membrane and affects the soft tissues around the joints. In Belgium, the number of RA patients is estimated at 100,000. The actual cause is unknown, but there is evidence that the immune system is disrupted, which causes the body to attack its own tissues and creates inflammation in various joints.

Rudi Beyaert and his research team previously identified the molecule A20 as an important point of focus for the development of new medicines against RA and other autoimmune diseases. A20 appears to exert an anti-inflammatory effect in white blood cells.

?

Unraveling the details of an interaction

For the development of new medicines, it is important to fully understand the anti-inflammatory effect of A20. Previous research has demonstrated that A20 interferes with specific ?signaling pathways? in our cells that stimulate the activity of a DNA binding molecule (NF-?B). NF-?B plays a key role in many immunological processes and excessive activation of NF-?B can result in a whole range of ?inflammatory diseases?, including arthritis. However, it is still largely unknown how A20 interferes with the activity of NF-?B.

Kelly Verhelst and other scientists in the team of Rudi Beyaert have now mapped the specific interaction between A20 and the NF-?B ?signaling pathway?. They demonstrated that a small particle (ZF7) at the end of the A20 protein binds to certain small molecules (ubiquitin chains), which are attached to specific NF-?B signaling proteins in the cell. This makes it impossible for these proteins to communicate with other proteins, thereby disrupting the signal that would normally result in inflammation.

?

Research impact

This is very interesting from a scientific point of view, because the VIB scientists have identified a new mechanism that brings us one step closer to the possible development of a new medicine. After all, we now know which part of A20 has an anti-inflammatory effect and how exactly this works. Rudi Beyaert: ?Now that we know the importance of this small fragment (ZF7) of A20 for the anti-inflammatory effect, we can also use it as a point of focus for the development of medicines against various auto-immune diseases. This is one step closer, but we still have a long way to go.?

Brad Hodge to lead Australia at Hong Kong Sixes ? Cricket News Update

Cricket Australia on Wednesday named its seven-man squad for this year?s Hong Kong Sixes tournament later this month. Former top order batsman Brad Hodge will lead the side in the two-day fast-paced cricketing event.

"Hodge, one of the top batsmen in last season's inaugural KFC T20 Big Bash League, will lead a selection of explosive Australian cricketers in the two-day tournament," Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Cricket Australia?s National Talent Manager Greg Chappell picked up the squad, in consultation with the CA?s National Selection Panel.

Chappell said that they have picked up a good mix of youth and experience for the two-day tournament and hoped Hodge?s presence in the squad will help the youngsters.

"...the younger squad members will benefit from Brad Hodge's presence as captain/coach," said Chappell.

The 37-year-old Victorian batsman, who played six Tests and 25 One Day Internationals for the mighty Aussies during his three-year-long international career, spanning 2005-08, was excited at wearing Australian colours after a long time.

"I'm excited about the tournament, especially because it's been a long time since I've put on the Australian colours," said ?the right-handed top-order batsman while speaking to media reporters after being appointed as the skipper of the seven-man squad.

"I'll be taking on a bit of a mentoring role as coach and captain and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with the guys, particularly with someone like Meyrick Buchanan (19), who's still only a teenager but has been very impressive so far."

The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes is an international cricket tournament, held annually at the Kowloon Cricket Club. Initially 10 teams used to compete in the event, but since 2011 the number of teams has been increased to 12. The latest edition of the tournament will be held at the same Kowloon Cricket Club from October 27 to 28.

According to the tournament rules each team fields six players. Each game consists of five six-ball overs, and every player except wicketkeeper bowls an over, hence the format suits all-rounders. The number of balls in each over is increased to eight balls in the finals.

Pakistan are the defending champions. Mighty Aussies had won the trophy in 2010 when Ryan Carters and David Warner smashed 48 runs from the final over of the final to steer the side to a victory.

Australia squad: Brad Hodge (c), Meyrick Buchanan, Cameron Borgas, Travis Birt, Tim Armstrong, Theo Doropoulos, Steve Paulsen.

Requirement Elicitation - Digital Forensics Forums | ForensicFocus ...

- lgallon

Hi,
Im a 3rd year forensic computing student doing my final year project on discovering artefacts created on a computer using facebook chat. As part of my project I have to do a Requirement elicitation, i would be grateful if anyone could please reply to my questions to help me with my elicitation. I have researched this area so I have gathered my own knowledge but i thought it would help to get advice from others as well.

Maybe you could post a short list/sum up of the knowledge you already gathered.
No offence whatsoever intended Smile , but the questions you asked are very generic/vague and/or truisms, and they may lead to useless answers.

Examples Shocked :

- lgallon

Would the artefacts benefit an investigator?

Any artefact, if part of or leading to a misconduct or criminal offence is useful, any artefact that does not it isn't.

- lgallon

How would the artefacts benefit an investigator?

Helping proving the misconduct/criminal offence?

- lgallon

What methods would an investigator take to achieve this?

He would look for artefacts, find them if they actually exist and link them - where applicable - to a misconduct or criminal offence.

Windows Phone Is Taking Share From RIM, But It?s Still Nowhere Near Breaking Through The Android/iOS Stronghold: Research

windows-phone-7Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, the WPP-owned market research group, today released its latest 12-week smartphone sales figures across the key markets in Europe, the U.S. and elsewhere, and the figures show that Microsoft's Windows Phone platform is definitely making some progress, and in at least one case, in Italy, overtaking RIM as the fourth-largest smartphone OS in terms of actual sales. But it has a long way to go before getting enough critical mass to challenge the combined dominance of Google's Android and Apple's iOS in the smartphone race. Combined, the latter two are currently accounting for 93% of sales in markets like the U.S. Kantar Worldpanel analyst Dominic Sunnebo tells TechCrunch that smartphone penetration in the UK is now at 57.6%, while the U.S. penetration is 42% (that includes both prepaid and postpaid).

Google withdraws U.S. patent complaint against Apple

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Google subsidiary Motorola Mobility has dropped a complaint of patent infringement against Apple without explanation.

In a brief filing with the International Trade Commission on Monday, Motorola Mobility said it was dropping without prejudice a complaint that Apple had infringed on seven Motorola patents.

Apple did not return telephone calls seeking comment and Google said only: "As we have said many times before, we will continue to vigorously defend our partners".

Google and Apple have been locked in an international patent war since 2010, as Apple has sought to limit the growth of Google's Android system. The fight has embroiled Samsung, HTCand others that use Android.

Reuters reported in August that the two companies were in settlement talks. Google said in its filing, however, that "there are no agreements between Motorola and Apple, written or oral, express or implied, concerning the subject matter of this investigation."

The complaint can be re-submitted.

Florian Mueller, who was first to report the withdrawal on his blog, said he believed that Google withdrew the complaint to prevent it from being consolidated with an earlier case, thus slowing that case down.

In that case, an ITC judge had said in a preliminary ruling that Apple infringed on a patent for eliminating noise and other interference during voice and data transmissions. A final decision is due next April.

"Maybe they ... wanted to maintain their chances of at least getting some win against Apple in the U.S. in 2013," Muller said in an email interview.

The biggest victory in the smartphone patent war so far belongs to Apple. On August 24, a jury in a California federal court ordered Samsung to pay $1.05 billion in damages after finding that Samsung had copied critical features of the iPhone and iPad.

Samsung was the top-selling mobile-phone maker in the second quarter of 2012, with Apple in third place, according to data from Gartner Inc.

Sportingbet pressures William Hill to up bid

LONDON (Reuters) - Online gambling firm Sportingbet Plc said a 350 million pound ($565 million) offer approach by bookmaker William Hill and GVC Holdings "significantly undervalues" it, but left the door open for a higher bid.

It had received a takeover approach at 52.5 pence per share, consisting of 45 pence in cash from William Hill and 7.5 pence in shares in smaller online betting firm GVC, Sportingbet said on Monday.

"The board of Sportingbet has responded that this indicative offer significantly undervalues the business and its future prospects," it said.

However, it did not say it was rejecting the offer outright.

The statement followed speculation in the weekend press that the board had received a letter containing the joint bid approach, which it had unanimously turned down.

Analysts expect the bidders to come back with a higher offer.

"We believe Sportingbet is worth over 60 pence per share, excluding any bid speculation, and expect Wednesday's full year results to show the business continues to make strong underlying progress," said Panmure Gordon analysts on Monday.

Sportingbet is forecast to report pre-tax profits of around 30 million pounds on sales of 200 million on Wednesday, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S estimates.

Sportingbet has seen its European operations struggle with the economic downturn and a changing regulatory map, but has a strong core Australian business that is attractive to traditional bookmaker William Hill as it expands overseas.

Numis said shareholders should hold out for 90 pence per share, citing the business growth potential and saying it was a chance for the bidder to snap up a bargain while trading was at a low point.

Shares have risen from a low of 26 pence in May to 44 pence just before the approach was announced last month, and have been trading at around the offer level since then.

The bidders have until October 16 to make a firm bid or walk away under UK takeover rules, although this deadline can be extended.

Sportingbet and William Hill both declined to comment further.
