Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers ? Big Bash League ? Live Cricket Score and Match Update

Chasing the Adelaide Strikers? total of 162 in a Big Bash League game, the George Bailey-led Hobart Hurricanes fell 38-runs short of victory at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart, on January 5, 2013.

Johan Botha won the toss for the Strikers and chose to bat first. Put to field, the Hurricanes started well, dismissing opener Tim Ludeman in the first over, before sending Kieron Pollard back in the third. However, Michael Klinger and Callum Ferguson were able to steady the innings and took the score to 79. After Ferguson was run out on 32, Nathan Reardon joined Klinger for a valuable 70-run partnership. Reardon was the last to fall (Klinger and Botha returned unbeaten on 71 and 12 respectively) as the Strikers ended with 162 on the board after 20 overs.

For Hobart, Xavier Doherty, Evan Gulbis and Scott Styris returned with a wicket each. Scott was however, the most expensive bowler, conceding 42 runs in his 4 overs.

Coming in to bat, the Hurricanes started with Tim Paine and Aiden Bilzzard. Bilzzard was unable to open his account and fell to Shaun Tait for a duck, leaving Paine to be joined by Ricky Ponting. The duo scored 46 runs in tandem before Ponting was dismissed, initiating a middle-order collapse. After Paine, Travis Birt was caught out as well (an amazing effort by Kane Richardson), followed shortly by Owais Shah.

Skipper Bailey (17) and Xavier Doherty (15) were the only ones (after Paine and Ponting) able to score into double figures as the Hurricanes finished up on 124 in 20 overs, losing by 38 runs.

Cameron Boyce was the most successful bowler for the Strikers, bagging three wickets and the Player of the Match award, followed by Kane Richardson, who claimed two, while Michael Neser, Johan Botha and Shaun Tait came back with a wicket each.

Gaining 2 points from this win, the Strikers now stand third on the table with 8 points. Melbourne Renegades lead the chart with 10 points, followed by the Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars. Hobart Hurricanes have 8 points as well, but stand fifth on the table on account of their Net Run-rate.
