WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ? Interfaith Winston-Salem, a new nonprofit that encourages collaboration among religious faiths, had its beginnings in the confines of a Christian church.
Last July, after attending a lecture at Clemson University, Jerry McLeese and several others who attended a Bible class at Ardmore United Methodist Church started talking about having more in-depth lessons on Christianity.
But as McLeese talked to more people, including the Rev. Rollin Russell of N.C. Council of Churches in Raleigh, he realized that he needed to include all faith traditions.
?I think there have been signs of division in this community,? he said. ?It?s the nature of society that we tend to separate into like groups, and sometimes those like groups don?t agree with other groups.?
Over the past few years, several controversies surrounding religion have arisen.
